The Inferno has several interesting characters that Dante meets and introduces to the reader. Some of these are monsters and gods that he appropriated from Greek and Roman mythology. Others are fictional characters from other works of literature. Dante also puts popes, rulers, Florentines, and neighbors in Hell. As I worked on the game, I found these people and beasts fascinating and began experimenting with how to create my own version of their likenesses.
During this process I looked at different illustration styles. I wanted to create a system for my characters so that they were more designed. Although the current outcomes are not in the game, this experience was a major part of my thesis development. It will also be an avenue of continued exploration.
